Girls’ Housemistress

Are you qualified teacher who is passionate about boarding education and the pastoral care of young people? If so, Highfield School has a superb opportunity for just such a suitably qualified and experienced person.

We are seeking to appoint a Girls’ Housemistress for our Senior Boarding House from September 2020.

You will be responsible for approximately 55 boarding girls from Years 6 to 8, ensuring that their time at the school is enjoyable, safe, caring and stimulating. In addition to this important pastoral role, will be part-time teaching duties.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic qualified teacher with a real passion for boarding education and pastoral care to join our highly committed team to help continue delivering outstanding boarding provision. Previous experience of working in a boarding environment would be expected as would a willingness to play a full part in the everyday life of the school.

This role offers an excellent remuneration package to be determined in accordance with the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant and their teaching role at the school and modern purpose-built spacious accommodation, which would suit a single person or a small family. Meals will be taken free of charge during term time.

The School offers reduced fees for children of staff at both Highfield and Brookham, the Pre-Prep School.

Head of English

We wish to appoint, for September 2020, a first rate, qualified and enthusiastic Head of English to lead our vibrant Department and develop the teaching and learning of English to pupils in the Prep School and to continue to foster and develop strong links with our Pre-Prep.

English at Highfield is both popular and successful and the Department sets the highest standards. It has enjoyed great success at Scholarship level and Common Entrance at both 11+ and 13+. 

The successful candidate would be expected to teach English to 11+ and 13+ Common Entrance and Scholarship level.

An ability to coach games and contribute to our exciting and diverse extra-curricular provision would be an advantage.

Head of Maths

We wish to appoint, for September 2020, a first rate, qualified and enthusiastic Head of Maths to lead our vibrant Department and develop the teaching and learning of Maths to pupils in the Prep School and to continue to foster and develop strong links with our Pre-Prep.

Mathematics at Highfield is both popular and successful and the Department sets the highest standards. It has enjoyed outstanding success at Scholarship level and Common Entrance at both 11+ and 13+.  The Department comprises three Maths specialists, though given the size of the school, the subject is also taught by Key Stage 2 qualified teachers. The successful candidate would be expected to teach Mathematics to 11+ and 13+ Common Entrance and Scholarship level.

Marketing Communications Executive

We are looking to recruit a Marketing Communications Executive to support the Head of Marketing and Development to raise further the profile of Highfield and Brookham Schools. The successful candidate will deliver key aspects of communication with prospective, current and past pupils and parents. They will be responsible for writing press releases, articles for newsletters and magazines, booking advertising, taking photos and organising events.

This is a dynamic, forward-looking school and this post will suit a motivated, disciplined, confident individual seeking a busy and varied role.

This is a full-time role, with some flexibility during the school holidays for the right candidate.

Full-time equivalent £18,000 - £22,000 depending on experience.

Full-time Groundsperson

We are seeking to recruit an experienced full-time Groundsperson to help maintain and develop the grounds and gardens of Highfield & Brookham Schools, which have an estate of approximately 175 acres. Working as part of a small team of experienced grounds staff, you will maintain and improve the grounds and gardens to the highest possible standards.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Good working knowledge of plants, planting schemes and some basic landscaping skills
  • Good communication skills
  • An ability to communicate with all staff and children on an appropriate level
  • Good organisation skills, self-motivation and an ability to meet deadlines
  • An ability to work well in a team as a good team player
  • Good problem-solving skills and an ability to work under one’s own initiative to complete tasks
  • Enthusiasm, a willingness to learn new skills and a commitment to continued personal development
  • A reasonable level of physical fitness

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Horticulture or RHS Level 2 qualification
  • 2 years’ experience of working in a similar role, preferably within a school environment
  • Experience in the use of a range of grounds machinery and garden tools
  • Full, clean Driving Licence
  • A desire to develop and improve and undertake relevant training

Desirable Qualifications & Skills:

  • PA1 & PA6 Pesticide Application certification
  • Health & Safety Training
  • Manual Handling Training
  • Chainsaw Cross Cutting & Maintenance
  • Chainsaw – Small tree felling

This is a full-time role working from 7:30am to 4:30pm with an unpaid hour for lunch (40 hours per week) all year round.

Competitive salary and school lunches provided during term-time.

Salary will be dependent on experience but is in line with the industry related salary bands.

Resident Graduate Assistants

Are you an enthusiastic and caring individual, seeking an exciting challenge to work within a dynamic team at one of the UK's leading boarding Prep Schools?

Highfield School, a forward thinking, imaginative and progressive Preparatory School, seeks outstanding Graduates to join our team as Assistant Teachers from September 2020.

Working as part of the Residential Staff, the successful applicants will be engaged in the classroom, on the games field and in the Junior or Senior Boarding House. You will be caring, enthusiastic, with a zest for life and a commitment to work as part of a team.  In return, we offer a fun and enriching environment in which to work and live.

Working under the leadership of the Houseparents and Head of Boarding (Pastoral), you will be based either in our Junior Boarding House, home to 16 boys and girls aged 8-11 or in our Senior Boarding House which houses up to 60 boys and 60 girls.

In the Junior Boarding House the children live within a family setting, with the Houseparents and family living downstairs. The children enjoy a home-from-home set up and the Resident Assistants will play a key role in their pastoral care, alongside the Houseparents and non-resident house tutors.  In the Senior Boarding House the Residential Assistants will work as part of a team looking after the children and ensuring their time at the school is enjoyable, safe, caring and stimulating.

Single accommodation will be provided within the Senior Boarding House, home to 120 children and a further 10 members of the residential staff. Meals will be taken free of charge during term time.

Cleaner

Cleaners required for general cleaning duties:-

Morning Cleaner - 6.00 am to 12 noon

Evening Cleaner - 4.30 pm to 9.00 pm

Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work required.

The roles continue throughout the school holidays.

Previous cleaning experience is desirable but not essential.

The successful candidates need to be flexible with a good work ethic.

£10.50 per hour (including holiday pay).

Swim Teacher

We are looking for a swim teacher to join our popular and highly regarded Swim School, offering swimming lessons to children aged 4yrs and above in our warm, clean 20m pool.

Requirements: Candidates will be qualified to Swim England Level 2 or STA Level 2. All candidates must be able to teach in the water as well as out of the water.

Hours of work: Tuesday 3:15pm - 5:15pm. The hours are term time only. Additional hours are available during holiday periods.

Start Date: The position can start from February 2020.
