Together we include

Armed Forces Families

We have a long tradition of welcoming military families to Highfield and Brookham School. We recognise that Service life and frequent postings can disrupt children’s education, so we provide a long-term, stable and caring boarding environment where your child can thrive from a young age.

Whether you are posted in the UK or overseas, our early boarding from Year 4 and strong Forces community give your child continuity, routine and a real sense of home. We offer flexible ways to get to know us, so if  you are currently nearby, between postings or overseas, we have an option for you. If you are unable to visit in person, we are very happy to arrange an online meeting at a time that works for you.

Our Admissions Registrar, Charlotte Cottrell, would be delighted to assist you with any queries you may have regarding fees for forces families, simply drop her an email.

My children have been and are incredibly happy at the school and speak very highly of the teachers and staff.

Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA)

Military families who claim the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) pay only the minimum parental contribution of 10% of boarding fees. This means that for the current academic year our Forces families are enjoying a Highfield and Brookham education for less than £1,000 per term in parental contributions (plus any extras incurred for that term). We also offer a 10% discount on day fees for Armed Forces families.

Our Admissions Registrar, Charlotte Cottrell, regularly supports Forces families with the CEA process and fee questions. If you are unsure how CEA applies to your circumstances, simply drop her an email and she will be happy to help.

Outstanding Pastoral Care

We take every aspect of pupil care very seriously, which is why keeping your child safe and ensuring they are happy at school is our biggest priority. We pride ourselves on our exceptional pastoral care, our integral learning support department and our first-class medical centre.

Our staff are experienced in caring for children from military families. They understand the particular worries that can come with deployments, postings and parents working away from home, and they offer calm, consistent support so your child feels known, understood and fully part of school life. Houseparents and tutors keep a close eye on children during times of change, help them stay in regular contact with parents, and provide extra reassurance around departures and homecomings.

All three of my children have attended the school. Two have transitioned well to their senior school due to the support, education and role models they encountered at Highfield.

Thriving Boarding

Our boarding provision has always been an integral part of our Prep school and its continued popularity reflects how well we do it. For Forces families, Highfield and Brookham offers a gentle, homely introduction to boarding from Year 4, giving children stability long before many other schools begin boarding. Highfield and Brookham will become a place where your child feel secure and valued.

Your child will be warmly welcomed into our thriving boarding community by our experienced, caring team. Weekends and evenings are filled with activities, friendships and routines that help children quickly feel at home, even when parents are far away.

We have around 100 boarders with an even split of children choosing full, weekly or flexi boarding, so at the weekends children from military families continue to be surrounded by likeminded people just like they are during the week.

Academic Ambition

Our transformative approach will empower your child to become a critical thinker, curious questioner, compassionate individual and creative contributor. Our education embraces change, diversity and the progressing demands of the modern world. Your child is held at the heart of everything we do and every decision is made in their best interests.

Our timetable is designed to ensure children are fully prepared for exams by providing plenty of time for the core subjects as well as providing breadth and added value. We help children develop a growth mindset, where mistakes are an important part of the learning process, and encourage resilience and ambition so they become well-rounded, empathetic individuals who move on to some of the leading senior schools in the country at the end of Year 8. For children from military families, this continuity of academic ambition and pastoral care is especially important; wherever you may be posted, your child’s learning and friendships carry on without interruption.
