Highfield and Brookham is an independent Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep School in Liphook for boys and girls aged 2-13, nestled on the leafy borders of Hampshire, West Sussex and Surrey.
As a family-owned school, we celebrate our genuine independence and prepare children for the leading boarding and top day schools. Not being answerable to a senior school or trust results in a strong sense of togetherness and a welcoming family feel. We work together with our children and their families to ensure the children receive the very best education possible. Our curriculum is rich and varied, providing balanced opportunities across a wide spectrum of extra-curricular, outdoor and outreach programmes.

We have a flawless record of securing entrance to a child’s chosen senior school, whether at 11+ or 13+. Our curriculum gives opportunities for all children to flourish and our scholarship success is evidence of our outstanding academic ambition. Our children have been awarded over 100 scholarships over the past six years to a diverse range of top senior schools, including Wellington College, Cranleigh School, Radley College, Marlborough College and Charterhouse and include a huge variety of scholarships ranging from academic and art to sports and music.

Situated in 175 acres of glorious natural grounds in the South Downs National Park, on the borders of Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire, our beautiful estate provides not only a stunning backdrop for our Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep, but importantly is a wonderful place for learning. We are committed to making the most of our amazing grounds, as well as protecting and enhancing them.

What we’re up to
Year 3 have today been treated to a tantalising glimpse into the fascinating world of the Ancient Mayans, the subject of their new history topic. Absorbed in a One Day Creative Education drama workshop rich in role play and imagination, the children learnt about the appearance of the Mayan people, the different elements that made up their society (such as queens, warriors and traders) and the role of the humble cocoa bean. Our drama scholarship pupils have recorded pieces to camera to send to @charterhousesch as part of the application process. Under the expert eye of Mrs Baird, our dedicated Head of Drama, the children had to perform in the theatre for three minutes. There was a real buzz around the Year 1 classrooms today as the children dug a little deeper into their special spring term topic. The inquisitive children have been asking the question ‘why are bees so brilliant?’ Today, they welcomed into school expert beekeeper Michelle Ernoult, who gave the children a fascinating insight into the lives of our crucial and busy pollinators. They say all good things must come to an end, and that’s the case for our beautiful Christmas tree which has taken pride of place in the prep school car park for the past few weeks. The health of our planet and the wellbeing of the environment are never far from the thoughts of our caring children, in and out of the classroom. And this was wonderfully demonstrated by Year 6 pupil Ottalie M, who earned the Art Effort of the Month award for December with this watercolour painting inspired by the book Future Hopes. We have some wonderful traditions at school which have stood the test of time, not least children touching the bronze plaque dedicated to William Riches Mills as they leave the Chapel. Mr Mills was owner and Headmaster at Highfield and Brookham from 1907 until his death in 1953, having moved the school to its current site in 1904. One of the undoubted highlights of the festive season is the annual Christmas card competition, where the children demonstrate amazing levels of creativity and artistic talent. Art teachers Mrs Houghton and Mrs Pearson have a tough job every year picking the winners, and this year was no exception. It was multimedia heaven as the children produced eye-catching designs featuring Santa, snowmen, baubles, Christmas trees, snowy scenes, reindeer and wreaths using pastels, watercolours, charcoal and acrylics.
