Together we improve

Swim School

Our Swim School welcomes children aged from 4 to 14 years from the surrounding area including Liphook, Haslemere and Petersfield to our inviting, clean and warm indoor pool. We introduce children to the joys of swimming and help them become proficient, confident swimmers.

We believe that learning to swim is an essential life skill that every child should have the opportunity to master, which is why when it comes to lessons our approach is focused firmly on technique. This approach, coupled with only recruiting highly-qualified coaching staff, means that when children reach the end of their time with us they have perfected their strokes and are extremely competent and confident swimmers.

Our Approach

We put a huge emphasis on technique and make this the focus of every class regardless of the level being taught. To us, technique encompasses everything from the basics of breathing correctly and body alignment to strokes and kicking. And we won’t ever progress children who aren’t ready to move onto the next stage of their swimming just to create space for others. We recognise that every child is unique and will progress at a different speed to others – some need a little bit longer to master certain techniques while others are natural-born water babies who progress very quickly.

Our Coaches

We select our coaches very carefully and only appoint those for whom teaching swimming is a real passion. We believe that having this passion and enthusiasm rubs off onto the children and helps motivate and engage them during their lessons. Our team of outstanding coaches are all Level 2 ASA or STA qualified, pool rescue qualified, have completed enhanced DBS checks, and are dedicated to delivering an excellent swimming programme. Each coach uses their own individual style during lessons to make it fun and engaging, but technique is still at the heart of each session. So regardless of which coach you have, you can be assured that all of them will help your child become a proficient swimmer.

Our Curriculum

We follow the Swim England Duckling and Learn To Swim Awards scheme as we believe it is the strongest curriculum to help children learn to swim. It focuses on technique and skills and takes children through all stages, from complete beginners to advanced, competitive lengths. We work on one stroke per week in the lessons and cover all four strokes – front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke – right from our very beginner groups.

Term Dates

Autumn term 2024

Term starts: Wednesday 4th September 2024

Term ends: Tuesday 17th December 2024

Half term: Monday 28th October – Saturday 2nd November 2024

Entry Requirements

For group lessons: Lessons are available for children aged from 4 to 14 years (children can swim up until the end of Year 9). Children aged four years must be in Reception school year. Experience has shown us that children who haven’t been involved in a structured environment struggle to concentrate for the 45 minute lesson and find having to be still, listen and follow instructions more challenging.

Children should be fully confident in water to a minimum level of being able to put their face in the water with ease. Due to the depth of the pool at the shallow end, children must be a minimum of 90cm tall from their chin to their feet. This is so that when they stand in the shallow end, their mouth will be above the water level.

Moving Up

At the end of each term, coaches assess their pupils and award them Swim England certificates. Once assessments have been carried out, we advise parents if their children need to move groups. This could simply mean a move to the next group up on the same day and time or it could mean a move to an alternative day or time. We endeavour to minimise lesson changes as much as possible as we understand that this can be difficult for many parents.

Lessons and fees

Lessons are available after school Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings. Group lessons last 45 minutes and we have a maximum of six children in a widths groups (in exceptional circumstances this might increase) and up to five children per lane in our lengths classes. Private lessons last 30 mins and can be 1:1 or 1:2.

Group lessons cost £14.50 each and private lessons cost £37 each and are all charged termly in advance. Fees are subject to change. Payment can be made by bank transfer and Childcare Vouchers.
