Year 5 Scholarships

Welcome to Highfield and Brookham, an independent co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 2-13. We’re located in 175 acres of stunning grounds within the South Downs National Park in Liphook and we welcome families from across Hampshire, West Sussex and Surrey, as well as further afield nationally and internationally. We pride ourselves on the strength and breadth of our curriculum, our first-class teaching, the highest levels of pastoral care and our ongoing commitment to the environment. Our education shapes well-rounded, empathic and caring individuals who move on to some of the leading senior schools in the country at the end of Year 8.

We are delighted to offer our new Year 5 all-rounder scholarship designed to recognise exceptional children who demonstrate a passion for learning and a commitment to personal growth. This prestigious scholarship is open to both new children joining Highfield and Brookham as well as current pupils who have demonstrated exceptional abilities. A scholarship will be offered to children who demonstrate a positive attitude to learning, will be excellent role models and strengthen the whole school community.

Our all-rounder scholarship

We believe in the importance of developing well-rounded individuals who can thrive in a variety of environments. We understand that children’s passions change as they progress through their academic journey and want children to have the freedom to continuously pursue new areas of interest. Our all-rounder scholarship offers exactly that opportunity and allows our scholarship recipients to explore a diverse range of subjects and activities and not get pigeonholed into one area. They’ll discover true passions and strengths as they progress to support their academic growth and develop essential skills such as problem solving and creativity. Our approach unlocks the full potential of every child and allows them the confidence to be who they want to be. We offer scholarships for Year 5 entry in order to provide a strong foundation for children before they begin their journey of senior school applications and ISEB pre-tests.

We seek to identify and nurture exceptional children who embody a desire to learn and a confidence to try new things.

Who should apply?

We seek to identify and nurture exceptional children who have a strong desire to learn and a confidence to try new things. Our scholarships will reward individuals who demonstrate excellence across a range of areas. We are looking for children who show strong academic performance and have a track record of high achievement in the classroom. Children who possess intellectual curiosity and a real love of learning, with the ability to think critically, problem solve and apply their knowledge in different ways. We’re looking for children who shine through their involvement in extra-curricular activities, be that in sport or the arts or by volunteering. Children should be able to demonstrate their leadership, teamwork skills and communications skills and have a positive attitude, taking on challenges and persevering. Above all we’d like to see a demonstrated commitment to the values of Highfield and Brookham School: Be Kind, Be Courageous, Be You.

Scholarship recipients will receive a 5% fee remission on school fees and peripatetic lessons including LAMDA, music and tennis.

Scholarship assessment day

Our scholarship assessment day in November provides your child with the opportunity to showcase their academic potential and personal qualities. They will participate in a series of workshops in sport, music, drama, art and design technology where they can demonstrate their ability, teamwork, leadership and attitude to learning.

Children will complete assessments in maths, creative writing and verbal and non-verbal reasoning. The results provide valuable insights into core knowledge, creativity and problem-solving abilities. Our Head, Suzannah Cryer and Head of Middle Prep, Jo Longshaw will meet your child so that they can get to know them on a personal level and find out more about their aspirations and motivations. We understand the importance of this decision for your child’s educational journey, and our team carefully evaluate each applicant to ensure a fair and thorough assessment.
