Such A Lot Of Good Sports…
Sports Day is always one of the most keenly-anticipated and most-loved highlights of the school calendar – and this year was absolutely no exception. We staged no less than four different events over as many busy but brilliant days, with children from Nursery all the way up to Year 8 showcasing great speed, stamina, dexterity, determination and, above all, wonderful sportsmanship to create so many magical moments on and off the athletics track. At Brookham, Willow were the winning house in the joint Reception and Year 1 Sports Day while Oak and Willow shared the spoils for the children competing in the Year 2 and Year 3 event. At Highfield, six school records fell on a dramatic day. Alice D set a new Junior School mark of 56.60 seconds in the 300m, eclipsing by more than one second the previous best set by Sasha Burnet in 2006, while Emily S won the Senior Girls’ 100m in a time of 12.56 seconds to lower the mark set by Jessica Taylor (12.72) in 2001. In the relays, Trafalgar smashed the record set by their own housemates a year earlier by an astonishing 12 seconds, dipping below one minute (58.01) en route to victory in the Senior Boys’ 4x100m. And Agincourt claimed three new school records – winning the Junior Boys’ 4x100m in 1.11.88 to break a record set by Trafalgar in 2005, the Middle Girls’ 4x100m in a time of 1.11.88 to beat Agincourt’s own previous best set in 2002, and the Middle Boys’ 4x100m in 1.02.00 to lower the mark set by a previous Agincourt quartet in 2002.
